The growth of the Indonesian population and other factors have contributed to the shortage of water supply in some parts of the country. According to statistics, from 1990 to 2020, the domestic demand for drinking water will increase by 220%. Urban and suburban water demand is growing. Only 39% of the urban population can drink clean water, which is only 18% of Indonesia's national population. To meet the standards set by the government so that 69% of the population can have clean water resources, the Indonesian government also need to invest 4.5 billion US dollars in the next 10 years to improve the Indonesian local water treatment technology and water use level.
